Where you look affects how you feel.
DAVID GRAND, PHD
With brain-body approaches, there's a compelling opportunity to build somatic awareness and to regulate the nervous system. As a result, you'll build capacity to feel more like yourself more of the time. Brainspotting is a cutting-edge technique utilizing your eye position and combining the power of both neurobiological and relational attunement to address a wide range of mental health concerns. Not only is it effective with trauma, but it also addresses any type of dysregulation or activation.
Talk therapy engages the neocortex—our thinking, conscious brain—while somatic therapies such as Brainspotting access the subcortical system where trauma and distress is often stored. Current research in neuroscience reveals that painful memories can get stuck in the non-verbal, non-cognitive subcortical brain which diminishes our ability to live fully in the here-and-now. Brainspotting harnesses the brain's natural healing process by utilizing the visual field to complement healing.
Brainspotting has shown effectiveness with issues such as:
• trauma
• anxiety
• depression
• addictive, compulsive behaviors
• unprocessed grief
• physical pain
• creativity and performance blocks
