Fall is my favorite season in Los Angeles, watching the birds change color and fall from the trees.
— David Letterman

As an East Coast transplant and a Letterman fan, I’ve always loved the absurdity of this quote. Yet, there’s a bit of nostalgia for me because Fall used to be my favorite season. Nowadays, I find this time of year tolerable, but there will always be a part of me that misses the cooler days and the changing of the leaves back East. Don’t get me wrong—after thirty years, L.A. is home for me, and in so many ways, I love my life here. I guess I’ll just keep looking for the birds falling from the trees.

It’s Not About the Sex
(Release Date June 2019)

Not only does the Autumn season bring shorter days, it’s also the season of edits and revisions for my upcoming book, It’s Not About the Sex. I suppose editing is like being a bear as I retreat to my den and hibernate until all of the edits are complete. And after all of the revisions have been made, I’ll re-emerge ready to share the fruits of my labor.

My editor, Dan Hernandez at Central Recovery Press has been instrumental in fine-tuning my manuscript and helping me refine it sentence by sentence, page by page. He reviews it with a fine-tooth comb to help me create a more cohesive work. We plan to have the editing process finished by the end of the year, and the release date is planned for June 2019. Stay tuned for more details.

The Curiosity Project
by Jen Davis, AMFT

The Curiosity Project magically emerged in my life during a time of great losses. I was thirty-years-old and did not yet know how to hold so much loss. I was sitting on my front porch in Los Angeles; heartbroken, stuck, staring down the barrel of another beautiful sunny day. This was when the gift appeared. A voice within me said, I cannot do this again today. I cannot sit here and eat my feelings like cake. Then a solution, Go do things you’ve never done before.

The Principles of Group Psychotherapy
(November 3-4, 2018)

The Group Psychotherapy Association of Los Angeles (www.gpala.org) is offering this 2-day course, and I’ll be part of the faculty with my esteemed colleagues, Monica Farassat, Michael Frank and Keith Rand. I hope to see some of you in November at Clearview Treatment Center in Venice, CA.

This course provides training on issues unique to the practice of group therapy including a basic understanding of theory, principles, and applications. The course includes didactic presentations, discussions, and experiential group demonstrations. It’s intended for graduate students and mental health practitioners at any experience level who wish to expand their knowledge and skills in group therapy practice. (This event is currently sold out and will be held again in 2019.)

Brainspotting Presentation:
Evolution of Addiction Treatment

On Saturday January 26, 2019 I’ll be a co-presenter with Claudia Lewis and Maria Gray at the Evolution of Addiction Treatment conference here in Los Angeles. The name of the workshop is Brainspotting and Addiction: Regulating the Nervous System toward Sustainable Sobriety, and we would love to see you there. For more information, visit www.theevolutionofaddictiontreatment.com.

This past July I travelled to Boulder with Claudia Lewis to attend a weekend Master Class with Dr. David Grand, the founder of Brainspotting. After watching him demonstrate Brainspotting for three days, I returned to my practice feeling more freedom, creativity and spontaneity with my clients. Please let me know if I can answer any questions or curiosities you may have for me.
