“Our lives begin to end Welcome to the Summer issue of Westside Notes. After returning from a restful week on Orcas Island off of Seattle, I’ve been reflecting on the summers in South Jersey where I grew up in the 70s. It was a time and place where I could ride my bike all day, play Frisbee golf and organize ping pong tournaments, and the freedom I experienced as a kid reminds me of the spontaneity I would like to re-kindle in my grown-up life. As we wind down what’s left of summer, I do hope that the kid in you gets to play and revel in the lightness of the season. GPALA Annual Conference 2011 Once again the Group Psychotherapy Association of Los Angeles is hosting its annual conference, and this is an event not to be missed. Because much of the 2-day conference is experiential, I always leave with a renewed experience of what it takes to be an effective group therapist as well as a renewed appreciation for the courage and hard work it takes to show up as a client in group. For more details, visit www.gpala.org. Save the Date: On Friday December 9th, I’ll be presenting a workshop entitled “It’s Not About the Sex: The Paradox of Sexual Addiction” at this event, and here is an excerpt describing the conference:
We provide a forum that encourages professional dialogues of controversial issues, showcases innovative and creative treatment approaches, and offers an overview of the field and its future. I’d love to see you there if your schedule allows. For more information, visit www.theevolutionofaddictiontreatment.com. Resource of the Month: In mid-July I had the pleasure of visiting The Bridge to Recovery in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Not only is it unique in its treatment focus, but the staff is one of the friendliest, most down-to-earth groups of people I’ve come across in a long time. The Bridge was founded in 1972 as a non-profit, mission-driven organization, and today they are one of the premier programs that treats codependency, trauma and process addictions in a very cost-effective way. They just announced that they will be opening a West Coast location in Santa Barbara which I also had the opportunity to visit, and it’s quite impressive. I highly recommend that you keep them in mind if you’re looking for a quality program at a very reasonable price. Please visit their website at www.thebridgetorecovery.com or contact me so I can share my personal impressions with you. Exceptional Westside Office Many of you have visited my suite of offices, but for those of you that haven’t seen them, it’s become a really special professional home where I hope to stay for a long time to come. I’m currently anticipating a few changes so if you know of anyone looking for part-time space on the Westside, I’d be happy to speak with them. Here is the current availability in my suite:
My office (15 X 15, windowed): For a detailed description of the suite, please click here. If you prefer not to receive future mailings, simply unsubscribe below and I look forward to connecting in other ways. In the meantime, take good care and I hope to cross paths sometime soon. Gratefully,
