“To be what we are, and to become what we are capable Welcome to the autumn issue of Westside Notes. Here in Santa Monica it seemed like we missed out on our usual summer as the marine layer lingered above us more days than not while recent rains arrived about a month earlier than expected. Don’t get me wrong—I actually prefer this version of real weather, but this summer we were exceptionally sun-deprived here on the Westside. Now that the holiday of giving thanks approaches, I want to express my deepest gratitude to all of you and wish you a very safe, healthy and peaceful holiday season.
SAVE THE DATE
Recently, I’ve been going through a bit of a renaissance with my group work as I’ve been attending more trainings and starting a brand-new group, and here in L.A. the Group Psychotherapy Association of Los Angeles (www.gpala.org) is truly the local nucleus for training, education and camaraderie. In April we’ll be hosting a ground-breaking, one-day conference entitled The Roads Merge: Where Addiction Recovery meets Group Therapy at the American Jewish University off Mulholland at the 405. It’s a rare opportunity to bring together two of my professional communities—group therapists and addiction professionals—and to create a dialogue and a stronger bridge between them. Here is an excerpt and a link to our preliminary flyer:
Therapy Group Openings
Recently, I started a brand-new therapy group (general process group for men & women) which meets every Monday from 6-7:30pm in my Westside office. The group still has room for one more male and one more female so please keep my group in mind. It’s designed for clients who have some individual therapy experience under their belt and are looking for the therapeutic support and feedback available in a group setting. Resource of the Month: Most of you know that I completed the 3-year certification process to become a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, and I just wanted to remind you of this valuable resource if you know anyone who is looking for clinicians trained in this approach. Below is a brief description of SE borrowed from the trauma healing website: Take good care and hope to see you in 2011 if not sooner. If you prefer not to receive future mailings, simply unsubscribe below.
Warmly,
Andrew
